Key Engineering Group, Ltd. Receives Top Honors Award from United States General Services Administration
Key Engineering Group received a top honors award for engineering services from the United States General Services Administration (GSA) in Washington, D.C. on January 20, 2011. The award was selected from a pool of several hundred GSA structures, evaluated by the Harvard School of Business. The award was for engineering assistance in constructing a United States Land Port of Entry (border crossing) in Warroad, Minnesota. Key Engineering Group was retained by the GSA in 2004 to perform environmental and civil engineering for this project. The United States Homeland Security identified that the prior border crossing in Warroad was undersized, out-dated, and presented a threat to national security. Homeland Security required that the border crossing be placed in a wetland area with soils poorly suited for construction. This 40,000 square foot, $33,000,000 facility met its aggressive construction schedule and was dedicated in the summer of 2010. The facility boasts LEED Silver certification, and was created with sustainability and design as top priorities. Geothermal heat and local building materials such as tamarack and cedar siding, ironstone landscaping and wildflowers provide a very nice compliment to the buildings overall appearance. Accepting the award on behalf of Key Engineering Group was Mr. Kenneth Wein (President and CEO) and Mr. D’Arcy Gravelle (Vice President – Environmental Division).
